8 sheets Athens fillo dough
1 stick melted butter
4 packages instant oatmeal any brown sugar variety
5-6 cups peeled, cored, finely sliced sweet/tart baking apples
3/4 cups packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp + 1/3 cup flour
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp + 1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup Premium Caramel Bits (optional,if you love caramel)
Whipping Cream or vanilla bean Ice cream, your preference
Preheat oven to 375* In a buttered 8in. deep, pie dish, layer 8 sheets of fillo, turning dish a quarter turn after each layer, buttering and sprinkling, 1 package total, of instant oatmeal between each sheet. bunch any excess edges to make a trim around the circumfrence of dish.
APPLE FILLING- Combine sliced apples, packed brown sugar,2 Tbsp flour, salt, 1/8 tsp cinnamon, and caramel bits in a mixing bowl. Toss well to combine. Pour on top of fillo layers in dish, pile high.
TOPPING-Combine remaining melted butter, 3 packages of instant oatmeal, 1/3 cup flour 1/4 tsp. cinnamon. Stir until all the oatmeal is wet, add more butter if needed.
Crumble over apple filling. Bake 25-30 min, or until apples bubble. (If strudel browns to soon, set a piece of foil just on top). Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipping cream, ENJOY!
