The presentation of a dish says a lot about the cook. What tips can you offer about unique food presentations and combinations? Presentations include sauces, garnishes, etc. Combinations include your favorite main and side dish combinations.

A really nice presentation in Phyllo for a wrap or strudels is to use basic cooking herbs for savory, and a few small torn pieces of mint or finely chopped dried fruit or raisins for sweet recipes on a sheet of Phyllo before adding the second or multiple sheets.

What I do is brush a sheet with oil or melted butter and arrange a sprig, off center, of one of these ideas - dill, parsley, chives, thin slices of the green from scallions, cilantro; a leaf or tiny pieces of oregano, thyme, basil or rosemary, and then smooth a second sheet over the first. Brush with oil or butter, then add additional layers of Phyllo if recipe calls for them. When baked and served on a plate, this addition makes a pretty look to your dish.

Sounds like a great idea! I bet it would add some really good flavor to the recipe as well. Another way I’ve tried to add flavor is to add garlic to the butter before using it between the layers of Phyllo. Cinnamon also works great for a sweet dish. I’ve even tried just a little bit of cayenne but you have to be really careful.

Mmmmmmm... I have tons of basil and oregano growing in my garden this year. I bet herb-infused butter would be delicious used on phyllo dough. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
